The main purpose of the PTA is to provide financial support for the school to better provide for our childrens' education. In addition, its members also help support the Careers Education Programme for students, and offer help at college concerts, productions, sports days and social events. We aim to raise as much money as possible to enhance the school, while having fun at the same time!
Every parent, guardian or carer of a student at the college is automatically a member of the PTA, as well as the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. Any member is very welcome to attend PTA meetings and help with any of our activities at any time.
There is perhaps a common misconception that the odd cake stall and raffle might be all that's needed to provide the school with a bit of extra money to fund small extras within the school curriculum.
This is not the case!
In fact, many may be surprised to learn that the financial support from BVC's PTA is vital to the maintenance, decor and facilities of the college. It costs a staggering £84,000 per year to maintain the buildings and cover the college's IT costs.
Our current fundraising target is to raise over £20,500!
Last year there were just four parents on the PTA committee and helpers list, a very low level of support for a school with over 600 pupils, that's got to be nearly 1200 potential PTA members! This year we're pleased to say we have 27 members. We meet about 4-6 times per year and the meetings last about one hour.
If you would like to help make a difference to your child's school and join the PTA, please let Lynne Bebee know by email at PTA@bassingbournvillagecollege.com or leave a note addressed to the PTA with college reception. We would love to have you on the team - whether it's just to help out at the odd event or get more involved.
